Implications for practice and research
Children and young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) living in deprived areas are less likely to receive education, health and care plans in the UK.
Future research should aim to identify interventions that have the potential to reduce such inequities for individuals with IDD.
Context
The findings from this study by Lee et al1 mirror findings from similar studies across the world, reiterating that children with disabilities are receiving inadequate supports, particularly if they are living in a poor community or if they come from a minority background.
