Implications for practice and research
Discrepancies in perceived knowledge and concerns suggest a need for improved communication and a more open dialogue between people with intellectual disabilities (PWID), their parents and professionals.
Future research should strive to explore the reasons for differences in perceived knowledge in more detail through a qualitative component.
