Context

Contemporary nursing, born in the image of Victorian womanhood, is steeped in the trappings of feminity.1 Despite the steady representation of men in nursing, the profession is often perceived as inherently feminine. Stereotypes suggesting that certain traits are innately feminine continue to be perpetuated today.2 Globally, men make up approximately 20% of the nursing workforce.3 Extensive research has been conducted on men in nursing, focusing on the challenges and biases they face when choosing this profession.
