Q What are the effects of different preoperative fasting regimens on perioperative complications and wellbeing in children having elective surgery?
METHODS
Data sources:
Cochrane Wounds Group Specialised Register (Sep 2004), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (Issue 3, 2004), Medline (1966 to Oct 2004), CINAHL (1982 to Oct 2004), and National Research Register (UK) (as of Oct 2004); hand searches of anaesthesia journals, conference proceedings, and reference lists of relevant articles; and experts.
Study selection and assessment:
randomised controlled trials (RCTs) or quasi-RCTs of children ⩽18 years of age, who had general anaesthesia for elective surgery and a normal risk of regurgitation/aspiration; and compared different fasting regimens in terms of duration of fast or type or volume of fluid or solid …
