Implications for practice and research
Mindfulness interventions may alleviate or prevent depression and anxiety among mentally healthy pregnant women, but evidence suggests they are less effective for women with a history of depression or perinatal depressive or anxiety symptoms.
Future research should include maternal physiological indicators, infant assessment data, and examine whether findings differ based on cultural context.

Postpartum depression is a serious mental health condition with potentially significant adverse consequences for maternal and infant well-being.
