Implications for practice and research
Constructing the patient's story provides clinicians with specific communication strategies and interactions they can use with families to help and guide them through the transition from aggressive care to palliative care for their relative.
Future research should examine how ‘constructing the patient's story’ in the intensive care unit (ICU) is similar to or different from the patient story to be constructed in other settings.
