Implications for practice and research
This study shows that a nursing intervention based on the Health Belief Model (HBM) may lead to positive (clinical) effects in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Although this is encouraging, caution should be taken before generalising these results to the broader population of patients with COPD.
The chosen methods and level of usual care treatment in the control group may have significantly influenced the study effects.
