The physical and psychosocial benefits of centre-based cardiac rehabilitation programmes are well established.1 2 Unfortunately, only one-third of individuals referred participate, and only one-third of participants continue to attend after 6 months.3 Barriers to participation in and adherence to centre-based cardiac rehabilitation programmes include issues surrounding family responsibilities, employment, social support, self-esteem, geographical distance, transportation and parking.3,–,6
