QUESTION

Does the presence of anaemia increase mortality risk in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF)?

REVIEW SCOPE

Studies selected assessed the association between anaemia (evaluated by haemoglobin or haematocrit concentrations) and mortality in adult patients with CHF. Outcome was mortality.

REVIEW METHODS

PubMed (to Nov 2007), ISI Web of Sciences citation index, and reference lists were searched for cohort studies (including secondary analyses of randomised controlled trials) that were published in full in English and had follow-up ⩾6 months.
